The eight days of spring previews that wrapped up on Thursday, bring forward the easy style of breezy, long and loose silhouettes, sometimes billowy, in chiffon, tulle and silk.
This New York fashion week was marked by a revolution in fashion aesthetics that reflected a new optimism through white and sheer fabrics.
”I think the collections have been very optimistic. The best of them have been very colorful and pretty and romantic,” said Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

CALVIN KLEIN
Sexy, smart and glamorous have been the favorite words for Calvin Klein at New York Fashion Week.
A delicate little tie hugged the models wearing pleated dresses, and the silk crepe V-neck dress was evocative of a slinky-yet-sophisticated robe. And those racer-back gowns were oh-so sultry. Will we see front-row guest Katie Holmes in one of them soon? Costa doesn’t normally pay much attention to trends but this time he nailed the defining look of the season.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA
Never going away from what is its signature, Glamour and Luxury. Oscar De La Renta overwhelm its guests with its spring assortment including a dress with a black silk faille bodice and ivory skirt and a black lace gown with embroidered beads that was paired with a black-tulle powder puff of a bolero
Several styles had 1950s influences, which the designer reinforced by playing The Platters’ ”Only You,” bringing the crowd to the chicest high-school prom one could imagine.

Detroit Fashion Week has been recognized as a Midwest regional fashion industry event.  Since the summer of 2005 DFW has helped to make Michigan a fashion power in the midwest region.  With the hard work of their staff and numerous volunteers they welcomed designers and buyers from across the country to see what our region has to offer.
It’s bikini season right now, but come autumn, all eyes move to the runway. Certainly the well-trod New York-Paris-Milan-London circuit comes to mind, but, closer to home, Detroit Fashion Week anchors the region’s evolving fashion design trade.

Detroit Fashion Week was established basically to help to launch the careers of local designers, to bring some credibility and some notoriety to Michigan’s fashion industry,” says Brian Heath, founder and producer of the state’s only such industry event. Now in its sixth year, it will be held at the Royal Oak Farmers’ Market from Sept. 19-25.

Detroit Fashion Week is different from New York in that we’ve taken the position of not only doing an industry event, but also educating the local design community as to what the industry expects outside of Michigan.” Heath sees this as a way to better educate local designers about the industry’s seasonal buying calendar. While it’s now an established show whose designers have attracted coverage from the likes of CNN Money and Women’s Wear Daily, the event has been quick to welcome new apparel and accessories designers.

Fashion Week typically features 12-15 designers and 8-12 fashion students. Couturiers like Katerina Bocci have appeared. Bocci is the most well-established designer in Michigan. She’s a huge supporter of Detroit Fashion Week,” Heath says. Complete Fashion Article…

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is moving to Lincoln Center this September and is also moving into the 21st Century with a host of digital age tools for the fashion industry, designers, PR firms and fashion fans. The event, whose fundamental mission has always been to “organize, centralize and modernize” the American collections, has applied this mantra to its dynamic website (launching August 23) and has implemented new digital tools to create state of the art registration, credentialing and seating systems that integrate the registration, invitation and check-in process for attendees.

“This is a seismic shift in the way that fashion weeks around the world will operate,” said Peter Levy, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Fashion Worldwide. “The level of service this brings to the industry — from data capture for fashion designers on our website to event credentials being used to get seat assignments for press and retailers — will revolutionize the industry standard and be what people come to expect in the years to come.” Complete Fashion Article…
