The look is reminiscent of the petals and sometimes even the stem of a rose. The most popular (and DIY-friendly) technique is shown in this tutorial from Annies Forget.
Me Knots and involves wrapping two or more loosened french braids in a spiral. Though this video specifically shows how to achieve a half-up, half-down style with the flower detail located at the back of the head, the technique can be applied to other updos.
Try it with ponytails or buns and incorporate a variety of other types of plaits, including waterfall, dutch, and four-strand.
