How Princess Diana Made Camilla Parker Bowles’ Life Difficult

Although Camilla Parker Bowles has an infamous history due to her affair with Prince Charles, Princess Diana’s legacy reportedly made it hard for the Duchess of Cornwall to adjust to her new role once she married into the royal family.

After finalizing his divorce with Princess Diana in 1996, Prince Charles married Camilla in 2005. However, it took the public years to accept her following Princess Diana’s death in 1997. Due to her tragic passing, Camilla found it difficult to embrace her role as the new Princess of Wales.

Even though Camilla opted to go by the Duchess of Cornwall rather than the royal title Diana held, that was only one of her many issues when it came to adapting to life in the royal family.

According to the Channel 5 documentary “Charles and Camilla: King and Queen in Waiting,” Camilla struggled to pick royal charities.

Camilla reportedly had to avoid certain charities so it wouldn’t look like she was trying to replace Princess Diana. “All senior members of the Royal Family have their favorite charities. The charities that they support, the issue they’re most passionate about,” journalist Daisy McAndrew revealed.

“In Camilla’s case, it was very difficult for her because so many causes that we understand she actually did care about were associated with Diana. She had to be so careful not to tread on Diana’s image, or Diana’s favorite subjects or charities.”

McAndrew revealed that it would not have been wise for Camilla to focus on any of Princess Diana’s passions during her marriage with Prince Charles. “It would, of course, looked like she was trying to walk in Diana’s shoes. That was a very difficult line to tread,” she explained.

Princess Diana revealed Charles and Camilla’s affair during her 1995 Panorama interview. A year after her divorce from Charles, she died in a fatal car accident in Paris.
