Lady Gaga wore a custom Gucci outfit to perform the National Anthem at Super Bowl 50 on Sunday.

Lady Gaga presumably had the choice of almost every designer our there for the outfit she would wear to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the opening of the 50th Super Bowl on Sunday. But for her appearance at the 50 yard line of Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., she went Italian and asked Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele to whip something up. Michele created a custom hibiscus red Lurex two-button peak lapel suit with flared pants. His input also extended to accessories: Gaga wore Gucci platform heels with a brass cat head and spike details. She added sparkle eye makeup and blue nail polish.

“I’ve always been intrigued and fascinated by Gaga,” Michele told WWD. “She is a chameleon, she has the capability to fully express her individuality and her eclectic personality by simply being herself. When she asked me to create an outfit for such a symbolic moment at the Super Bowl, I was very honored. I went for red: pure energy for an energetic woman performing on an energizing event.”
