Fashion designer Elsien Gringhuis took her inspiration for her Fall/Winter 2011 Collection from the Dutch countryside at Amsterdam International Fashion Week.

Dutch designer Elsien Gringhuis became €25,000 richer on Thursday when she placed first in the Green Fashion Competition at Amsterdam International Fashion Week. Less than two years old, Gringhuis’s high fashion label weds understated sophistication with crisp construction, using eco-luxe fabrics like bamboo, wool, and pressed silks to contrast our drive for dominion with human vulnerability.
Elsien Gringhuis is modern and contemporary. She has great technical skills and paints a very feminine and beautiful picture.

Elsien Gringhuis took her inspiration for her fall/winter 2011 collection from the Dutch countryside, with it’s endless view, clear fields and lots of wind. She called her latest 2011 collection ‘One of these days’, after a Pink Floyd song. Giving away a bit of the ominous feeling this seeming fresh collection has. For her 18 different looks Elsien used natural materials like hand painted silk, bamboo and wool and opted for colors like black, white, green and (light) blue.

For this new Autumn/Winter Collection she focused more on the wearability of her designs. She also developed her way of pattern making. We thought the collection felt very minimalistic with its clean cuts and its plain colors. The silhouette looked refreshing and elegant and we loved the long jackets and jumpsuits.
