Fashion Week San Antonio kicks off Nov1, 2010

With the success of Fashion Week San Antonio 2009 this year will be nothing short of spectacular! Fashion Week San Antonio, produced by FGI San Antonio, is a city-wide celebration with events showing the broad spectrum of talent and forward-fashion activities currently brewing around the River City. The schedule offers a variety of social, educational, and fun events. Come mingle with designers and models at hip cocktail parties. Whether you are a student, designer, or fashionista, Fashion Week SA offers a wide range of events that are sure to please.

The grassroots efforts started three years ago with a fashion show staged on a 40-foot runway over her backyard swimming pool. Now it’s a city-recognized event with a scholarship fund.

San Antonio’s second annual fashion week, which kicks off Monday and concludes Nov. 6, is stylishly shaping up with a citywide variety of runway shows, fall- and holiday-trend presentations, a gala scholarship fundraiser and plenty of parties.
Building on last year’s inaugural event, the local chapter of the nonprofit New York-based Fashion Group International hopes to bolster awareness for San Antonio’s fashion industry and its movers and shakers.

“The fashion community has grown tremendously in the past two years, and so San Antonio’s fashion week hopes to provide opportunities for local designers, boutiques and others to display their talent,” says the group’s spokeswoman Cynthia Rangel.

Contrary to exemplary Fashion Weeks across the world, Fashion Week San Antonio exists to cultivate and broaden a talented local design community worthy of recognition on a national platform in the global fashion industry. In doing so, San Antonio presents a unique opportunity to reach an affluent, trendsetting, and fashion-conscious market segment via a one-of-a-kind branding and marketing platform. Fashion Week San Antonio is a proponent in the movement to invigorate San Antonio’s image and involvement in the global fashion community as well as support our city’s local fashion economy. Given our city’s strong ties and position as a gateway to Latin American culture, San Antonio is well situated to emerge as a leader in the arts and fashion industries alike.

Fashion Week San Antonio aims to expand the economic impact and image-building success of last year’s inaugural event.

This year’s Fashion Week San Antonio fun includes a kickoff party at the Palladium, a “Fashiontini” fashion show at the Hotel Valencia and a recycled materials fashion show at the Going Green Gala at Sunset Station.

Fashion Week San Antonio also utilize Hotel Indigo, the St. Anthony Hotel and Alamo Draft-house.
