No-No’s of Nose Piercing

no-no-of-nose-piercingNose piercing is serious business. Carelessness can leads to infection and swelling. Here are a few healing and aftercare suggestions that you might need.

Avoid using a piercing gun to get your nose pierced

Piercing guns were not invented for noses. The jewelry in it is very blunt and often way too tight for a nose. This increases the chances of an infection and scarring. Furthermore, the people using the gun are not trained properly to use the gun. This might lead to blood-born disease transmission if the piercing gun is not sterilized properly.

Avoid wearing sterling silver in a newly pierced nose

The tarnishing of sterling silver can permanently stain the skin if worn in a healing piercing. It can leave a black mark around the piercing area which will never go away. New nose piercing can be healed wearing stainless steel, niobium, titanium or 14k gold.

Avoid changing nose jewelry too often

A nose piercing takes three months to heal fully. If you take out the jewelry sooner, the piercing collapses or closes down. Changing jewelry too soon can also re-tear the inside of the healing piercing. If you need to change the jewellery go back to your piercer. He will change the pin in such a way that doesn’t let the piercing close down on you.

Do not use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to clean your new piercing

Alcohol or hydrogen peroxide leads to tissue burn and increases irritation. This slows down healing and increases the chances of scar tissue.

Avoid swimming pools and hot tubs

Chlorine and other chemicals are very bad for the healing tissue of the nose.
