The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal duties last year. They have been living in California for over a year already. Last month, they flew to New York for Global Citizen Live.

But days before the event, they made several engagements in the city. They visited the One World Trade Center and met with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and city Mayor Bill de Blasio. They also visited the 9/11 Memorial.

“There were a lot of raised eyebrows in New York, and in Hollywood, too,” the unnamed source said.

“A lot of people think that Meghan and Harry are trying to position themselves above most of their A-list peers.”

The insider added that the couple basked in their old royal status and enjoyed the attention that went with it. However, it was allegedly a “turn off” to many.

Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt also commented on the same trip. According to him, it was a “more self-serving and hypocritical royal tour” that the Sussexes orchestrated. He found it so “shameless” and “fake.” He also pointed out that it “mimics a royal tour.”

Bolt also questioned why Prince Harry was there in the first place. The Duke of Sussex mentioned in a previous interview that he wanted to be normal and be called Harry rather than “Prince Harry.”

The host said Prince Harry might want to be treated normally. However, his wife allegedly very much wants to play the royals. The royal couple also arrived in NYC with a cameraman in tow because they documented the outing for their upcoming Netflix show.

Bolt also wondered that the “important discussion” they had with U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield. The ambassador shared a photo of the royal couple’s visit and hinted that they discussed COVID-19, racial justice, and mental health.

The TV present was visibly not impressed with the outing. For him, they felt important and the tour was not only filled with empty gestures but obvious hypocrisy too.

The couple seemed to not mind the criticisms against their royal tour. An unnamed source who claimed to be a pal with Markle said they no longer pay attention to what the tabloids say.

“It doesn’t penetrate their world,” a source told Harper’s Bazaar.
