However, the place notably caught A-list celebrities’ hearts and eyes over the years. But the new epilogue in Finding Freedom‘s biography finally revealed how the couple decided to choose the place.

According to the book, several friends of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – including Oprah Winfrey — recommended Santa Barbara County.

They, reportedly, told the couple that it would be “perfect place to raise a family, specifically Montecito, where houses sat within double-gated communities for maximum privacy yet were close enough to the amenities of civilization when needed.”

Prince Harry and Meghan lived in Canada before residing at Tyler Perry’s mansion in Beverly Hills. Aside from Montecito, there had been rumors that the couple once considered moving overseas as early as 2019.

According to royal correspondents, they wanted to work sabbatical in Africa before. The royal couple confirmed this during their interview with Oprah, saying that they wanted to live in a Commonwealth country like New Zealand or South Africa.

Even possible for them to have a place in New Zealand,” Reddy said.

She added that the opportunities in New Zealand attracted Prince Harry and Meghan.

After long discussions, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex went through a lot until they bought a home in Montecito. It serves as the first permanent base of the couple ever since they gave up their senior royal positions due to privacy concerns.
