In new court documents filed with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the Oscar-winning actress shared how she has avoided the estate since 2016, when she and Pitt ended their marriage following allegations of abuse during a private flight from France to the United States.
“To this day, the children and I have never again set foot on the property, given its connection to the painful events leading to the divorce,” Jolie wrote in her statement.
Following the separation, the Maleficent star said she immediately began searching for a new place to live. “Post-separation, I immediately began to look for a new house for me and our children, initially renting a home while looking for a more stable solution,” she explained to Us Weekly.

Jolie and Pitt married in 2014 at Château Miraval, their sprawling vineyard estate in the south of France. Two years later, Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple’s relationship ended amid reports that Pitt had been physically and verbally abusive toward Jolie and some of their six children during a flight that year.
The FBI investigated the alleged incident but did not file criminal charges. Still, the episode became a central issue in the pair’s lengthy and highly publicized custody and financial disputes.
Jolie currently has custody of their six children — Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 17. Pitt retains visitation rights.
“To have such a sudden break from my home and memories has been hard,” Jolie wrote in her filing. She also noted that she had initially hoped ceding certain properties to Pitt would help ease tensions between them. “I hoped [giving Brad the properties] would make him calmer in his dealings with me after a difficult and traumatic period,” she added.

The French estate has remained a point of contention between the former couple, particularly over ownership of Miraval’s lucrative wine business. Pitt sued Jolie in 2022, alleging she unlawfully sold her share of the winery to a Russian oligarch without his consent.
Jolie has countered that the sale was a necessary step to sever her financial ties with him after the alleged abuse. While the legal battle continues, Jolie’s latest remarks underscore how deeply the split and its aftermath have affected her and her family.
