The young boys are said to be considering having a breather after completing their upcoming fifth album and tour

Boyband One Direction are said to be planning take a break next year, reports claimed last night.

Millions of fans will be disappointed by the news that their upcoming fifth album and tour could be the last they will hear of the four-piece for at least 12 months.

Harry Styles, 21, is reported to be keen to record a solo album. And bandmate Louis Tomlinson, 23, is understood to be keen to fulfill his dream of becoming an X Factor judge.

A 1D source reportedly said: "The band are to go on a break after promoting the fifth album next year, possibly with a number of live tour dates around the world."

The boys, including Liam Payne and Niall Horan, both 21, have worked hard pumping out albums and touring since being discovered by X Factor supremo Simon Cowell in 2010.

The band’s fans are still reeling from Zayn’s exit in March. But Cowell is believed to be keen to keep the band together long term and wants to give them time off so they come back stronger.

So don’t despair. And last night a spokesman for the boys held out a ray of hope for Directioners everywhere.

Last night he dismissed the claims, saying it was "all pure speculation and not based on any facts". He said: "The band are excited about their brand new fifth album and their upcoming tour."
