Prince Charles Calls End To Fake News, Conspiracy Theories On Holocaust Memorial Day

Prince Charles wants people to challenge fake news and conspiracy theories as the United Kingdom observes Holocaust Memorial Day, and he has also called on holocaust deniers to stop “assaulting the truth” by peddling their “irrational” theories.

The Prince of Wales commemorated the event during the online ceremonies organized by his patronage, the HMD Trust. Charles said that there’s a “deeply worrying growth of fake news” discounting the history of what really happened to millions of Jews and minorities during the Second World War.

The heir to the British throne said that the people who suffered and survived Nazi persecution during the Holocaust must be remembered for their heroism. He also commended those who lit a candle at home as a tribute to the persecuted as national landmarks across Britain turned on purple lights.

As Charles took the lead, his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, also honored and remembered the victims of the Holocaust. The Duchess of Cambridge spoke to two survivors via a virtual call.

ZigiShipper, 91, and Manfred Goldberg, 90, told Kate that it’s important to keep educating the younger generation about the ills of the Second World War. Both elderly men met and formed a friendship as they labored at the concentration camp in Danzig.

According to Hello, this was not the first time Kate met Shipper and Goldberg. The two men joined the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they visited their old concentration camp Poland in 2017. Kate told Shipper and Goldberg that she never forgot the stories they shared with her and Prince William since their meeting four years ago.

The duchess said that it’s important to pass on these stories so that future generations will not repeat or experience another genocide similar to the Second World War.

The two survivors shared a light and funny moment with Kate even as they marked the Holocaust. Shipper took the opportunity to tell the Duchess of Cambridge that he really wanted to see her again, and not Prince William.

Kate took the comment in jest and said that she would make sure to tell William that Shipper misses him. Kate and William also shared photos of their previous visit to Poland in another post on their Kensington Royal social media accounts.

Charles and Camilla did the same and shared photos from their Clarence House. The royal pairs conducted their memorials virtually as the United Kingdom is still under lockdown. The past Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations went all out with mass gatherings and ceremonies. (Business Times)
