The Prince of Wales, who has been working to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated through his ambitious Homewards project, used the platform to call on tech giants and private sector companies to play a more meaningful role in solving one of the UK’s most pressing social issues.
During the event, a new project called Data Lab was launched on Wednesday. The initiative aims to bring private-sector technology firms together with charitable organizations to identify people at risk of homelessness before they reach a crisis point.
Prince William said that data already used by major companies could help predict problems early and support people before their situations become more difficult. He encouraged the tech industry to think beyond commercial use and consider how its tools could help vulnerable communities.
Speaking during a panel discussion, William said, “Many of your customers, your clients, will be using data through banking apps, through their phones.
“I’m not sure you realise how much that data can be used to predict and see problems with potential homelessness before they actually arise, so that’s why I think today is so important that we get that conversation started.”

The future King highlighted that homelessness should not be seen as something unavoidable. Instead, he stressed that with the right partnerships, planning, and early intervention, it can be prevented.
His appearance at London Tech Week reflected the growing focus on using artificial intelligence, data systems, and digital innovation to address social problems. Through Data Lab, charities and technology companies are expected to work together to better understand the warning signs of homelessness.
Prince William’s Homewards project has already highlighted the need for long-term solutions rather than temporary responses. The initiative focuses on bringing together local organizations, businesses, and experts to develop practical models to help end homelessness across different communities.
At the event, William made it clear that the technology sector can contribute significantly. By using data responsibly, companies may help charities and local services identify risks earlier and offer support before people lose their homes.
The Prince of Wales’ message was simple but urgent: technology should be used not only for business growth but also to improve lives. His appeal to tech leaders underscored his belief that homelessness is not inevitable and that meaningful action across sectors can help create lasting change.
