Beautiful People MBFW Tokyo S/S 2016 Collection

As they walked a stark-white runway in updated versions of breezy summer dresses, peplum tops and full pleated skirts, the models wearing Beautiful People’s spring collection looked as if they had stepped out of a Fifties-era country club or ladies’ luncheon. Designer Hidenori Kumakiri enhanced the retro vibe with straw handbags and boater hats.

While Kumakiri’s silhouettes were loose and casual, they also had an elegance to them, with many looks offered in pastel lace or a sheer floral-embroidered fabric. Pant legs were wide and at times trimmed in eyeletlike cutouts, while blouses were fitted and feminine.

Overall, it was a cohesive collection that called to mind well-heeled Southern belles of a certain era, but also managed to look fresh and modern. A pair of jumpsuits and a leather moto jacket and lace dress combo were particularly on trend.
