Reem Acra Collection for New York Fashion Week Spring 2016

“I just want to take you to my world,” read the show notes at Reem Acra’s spring 2016 show. Acra’s world is usually ornate and over-the-top, her gowns distinct for their intricate beading, embellishments and embroideries. For spring, she flew us to a Middle Eastern glamour utopia, where some of the gowns were definitely fit for a queen -Acra is known to dress many royals – yet at times she got overly fanciful. Disney princesses came to mind.

Successful looks were rendered with sophisticated color combinations and the appropriate amount of embellishment: a silk metallic-striped blouson dress in purple, red and orange with floral embroidery or an off-the-shoulder blue-lace minidress with multicolor underlay and embroidered belt. Less appealing were offerings with a palette that leaned toward electric, as in a persimmon blouson-sleeve lace gown with the bottom half of the skirt done in sheer neon-green.
