Cars, a fashion statement

The need to be in with the “in crowd” or worse still, stand out from the “in crowd”, can cause the most level-headed to make a fashion statement which turns into a fashion disaster the moment you open your front door.

Besides, most owners are far less fickle about cars than they are about clothes. Cars inspire great loyalty. They conjure up dreams of who you might be and what you once were. Cars evoke memories of the past, hopes for the future and, more importantly, they make a fashion statement about who you are now. Modern cars have more of a problem in winning our affection. In 20 years from now, how many owners are going to spend their Sunday mornings tinkering with diagnostic machines to improve the running of their turn-of-the-century classics? A car as a fashion accessory says I’m rich, stylish, and flash, sophisticated, eccentric, green, old, young, hopeful – much the same as your clothes. So, what are you driving today?
