Kylie Minogue and Shakira lead the glamour at the Echo 2014 Awards

Kylie Minogue and ShakiraThey’ve both released new albums, with decidedly mixed results, but there was only one verdict as Kylie Minogue and Shakira made separate, but equally stunning entrances at the 23rd Annual Echo Awards on Thursday evening.

Echo Awards 2014 GalleryDespite neither being nominated for an award at the Berlin event, both were centre of attention as they sashayed inside the German capital’s Palais am Berliner Funkturm – which was hosting the awards ceremony for the fifth consecutive year.

Australian songstress Kylie, 45, caught the eye in a striking leather mini-dress with ruched peplum embellishments. The tight fitting ensemble showcased her diminutive frame and clung to her famously pert derriere as she blew photographers a series of playful kisses.

Echo Awards 2014 Red CarpetKylie completed her look with a pair of strappy black heels, while her hair remained loose, unfussed and naturally parted for her latest red carpet appearance. The singer, who plans to quit her new coaching role on The Voice UK after just one series, has received lukewarm responses for new album Kiss Me Once – her first musical offering since 2010 release Aphrodite

Echo Awards 2014Despite mixed critical reviews – with lead track Sexcercize and its provocative accompanying video attacked for an apparent glorification of overtly sexual images – the LP climbed to number two on the UK album chart following its release on March 14.

Shakira will no doubt be hoping for a similar chart listing with her eponymous new release, and she was on hand to promote the LP and its second single, Empire, at the Berlin awards show. The 37-year-old Colombian opted for a sweeping nude gown with highly distinctive black sequinned, spider-web patterned embellishments.

Shakira 2014Like Kylie, mother of one Shakira went for a natural looking hairstyle on the night, and the look helped accentuate her very subtle use of make-up. Established in 1992 the Echo Awards sees the German music industry honour a range of local and international talent.

This year’s event sees Katy Perry amongst the frontrunners in the Best International Female category thanks to latest album Prism. Other big contenders include Bastille’s Bad Blood in the category for Best Rock/Pop International Group and Robbie Williams, whose easy listening album Swings Both Ways is amongst the nominees for Album Of The Year.
