Rebel Wilson slams Sydney’s coronavirus lockdown on social media

Rebel Wilson has blasted the NSW Government’s decision to plunge parts of the state into a two-week coronavirus lockdown.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced on Friday that millions of residents in Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, Wollongong, and Shellharbour must stay at home due to a growing outbreak.

Residents can only leave their homes for work that can’t be done remotely, essential shopping, medical reasons, and exercise.

While the decision was welcomed by epidemiologists and many health experts, Wilson is clearly not a fan.

“Sydney WTF !!!,” the Bridesmaids star wrote in an Instagram story shared with her 9.9 million followers on Sunday.

“You can’t keep looking down as a strategy” she added.

The 41-year-old also shared a photo that her mother Sue took of a supermarket shelf stripped bare due to panic buying, writing “Mum took this at Woolworths.”

Wilson was born in Sydney, where her family is based but lives in the US where she is currently filming her new comedy movie Senior Year. On Sunday, Premier Berejiklian defended her decision to impose a lockdown, saying she had “no other choice.”

“I have never cared about what people think about me but I care about keeping people safe and not putting burdens on them unless we absolutely have to,” she told reporters.

“Yesterday we had no other alternative that is a decision we take to keep our community safe but also during the course of the next few days and weeks, make sure we provide as much information as possible and as much certainty as possible.

“We know when people are thinking about jobs, work, personal circumstances, they want as much certainty as possible and that is what we intend to provide.
