Simon Miller Resort 2022 Collection Themed Jetsons In Whimsical Shapes and Sizes

For the past two seasons, Simon Miller designer Chelsea Hansford has been looking to animated characters for inspiration. For fall and pre-fall 2021, her muses were the Looney Tunes and Super Mario World, respectively.

This season the theme continues with the Jetsons. In the new lookbook Dree Hemingway stars as Judy Jetson prepping for a party, dressed in futuristic ’60s designs. When her guests don’t show, she realizes she’s just as content to go it alone.

It’s a return to form for Hansford, who likes to put a modern, Californian bent on the mod ’60s and groovy ’70s. Her hallmarks are present here: coordinating knit pant-and-sweater sets, abstract patterns (this time a blown-up, scrambled logo print), color blocking. The key colors—kiwi, royal blue, and tangerine—add to the midcentury feel.

Accessories are key for Simon Miller, and this season they come in all manner of whimsical shapes and sizes. The label’s bubble clogs have been refreshed with a platform, while its signature Low Raid boots now feature an over-the-knee silhouette and a peep toe sandal.

The Bonsai bag, an early hit, was reimagined as a scrunched bucket bag, to great effect. For a true dash of Judy Jetson, go for the dangly Atomic earrings in blue or green.

Giving it a 202os feel, many of the pieces are form fitting or boast cutouts. The mesh and fine rib fabrications in particular feel of the moment, as people look to host parties or get out on the town. Some may realize that they’d rather be home alone, like Hemingway’s Judy. While it’s fun to get dolled up to see and be seen, the new generation knows an audience is hardly necessary.
