Daughter of allegedly murderous stepmom testifies about defendant claiming it was all a setup and video will show her then-missing stepson came home

On Monday, a young woman testified about her mother’s inconsistent excuses and justifications for why her stepbrother, 11, was absent and later discovered to have been murdered. Letecia Stauch, the defendant, was on the phone with her own sister during one particular exchange.

Harley Hunt, who was 17 when Gannon Stauch died, testified in court that the woman “just kept saying she was set up, that this video that’s going to surface will show that Gannon came home.” Just issues of that nature. On January 27, 2020, Letecia Stauch stabbed Gannon 18 times and shot him in the head (despite missing twice). A bloody scene was reported by authorities.

Senior crime scene investigator at the Metro Crime Lab in Colorado Springs, Alisa Berriesford, stated in court on Tuesday, “I’ve been to crime scenes with a single gunshot wound that has no blood.” “I’ve visited crime scenes where there were a few stab wounds without any blood. There must be some movement in that scene for there to be blood at that volume and in those patterns, told LawandCrime.

She gave the example of someone swinging a gory object in Gannon’s room. According to Stauch’s defense team, her dissociative identity disorder rendered her legally crazy. The prosecution contends that she was acting with knowledge when she cleared the scene of the crime, hid Gannon’s body, and concocted several tales about how the body had vanished or been kidnapped.

The child’s remains were discovered in a suitcase by bridge workers on March 17, 2020, in Pensacola, Florida. In his testimony on Tuesday, Commander Mitch Mikhalko discussed her behavior, which he found worrisome. To authorities, he portrayed her initial account as involving a kid who had run away and gone missing. Stauch, however, claimed that this was an actual abduction and that she had been raped in a statement to authorities.

Mikhalko answered yes when the prosecutor questioned if he was concerned about this. “Because that is not a normal thing,” he explained. Stauch was said to be difficult to locate for questioning, according to the commander.

Dakota Lowry, the defendant’s brother, previously testified that he went to Colorado Springs to help the defendant after Gannon vanished along with their mother and aunt. He spoke of seeing Stauch fumbling with the bag that, according to the prosecution, she used to transport Gannon’s body.

It caught his attention because it appeared like she was having difficulty with it, he remarked. He testified that when he offered to assist her, she said she didn’t need it. He testified that when questioned, Letecia Stauch said it included softball equipment. Lowry was questioned by prosecutor Dave Young about why he had inquired about the suitcase’s contents. He admitted in court, “I didn’t feel great about it. He claimed that it appeared to be too heavy for her.

On Monday, the prosecution stated that they had considered charging Hunt since she was traveling across the country in a van with her mother and the luggage in the back. Hunt said she never considered doing it and didn’t think her mother was the kind of person who would.

“It just never came up,” she explained. Hunt stated that her mother would sometimes backhand her if she talked back, which is why she did not question her.
