Prince Harry and Prince William had a falling out even before Meghan Markle joined the picture, according to a royal expert.
Prince Harry and Prince William were very close growing up and even after the latter married Kate Middleton. The Duke of Sussex was even called their third wheel. So, when the royal siblings had a falling out, it was easy to blame Markle.

But that’s not the case because the two princes already had a beef prior. Royal expert Simon Vigar spoke with Channel 5 for the Prince at War documentary. According to him, Prince Harry and Prince William fell out when they were young.
It allegedly started when the future king used his younger brother as a “decoy” at parties. “Harry has obviously got into some scrapes which have landed him on the front pages of the newspapers but at plenty of those parties, particularly the teenage parties, William was there, Harry served as a really useful decoy,” Vigar said in the documentary per Express.

Royal biographer Katie Nicholl said it was indeed the first time they had a falling out. Harry allegedly resented the fact that he had to take all the blame for his older brother. She added that Prince Harry refused to speak to his brother and forgive him for some time.
Meghan Markle’s husband spoke about his rift with the second in line to the throne in the ITV documentary after his and Meghan’s 2019 tour to Africa.

During the interview, the Duke of Sussex talked about the pressure they faced as a working royal. He also hinted that they had a falling-out but stressed, “look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers.”
“We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I’ll always be there for him and as I know he’ll always be there for me,” he added.

Other sources claimed that they had a falling-out after Prince William told Prince Harry to slow down with his romance with Markle. The Duke of Sussex allegedly went mental after hearing those words from his sibling.
Royal author Andrew Morton also weighed in on the royal sibling’s rift when he re-released his 2018 book Meghan: A Hollywood Princess. According to him, Harry resented that Prince William didn’t accept and support Markle the way he did to Middleton.

Prince Harry had always supported Middleton even before she married Prince William. He was always friendly with his sister-in-law. And he would have loved it if his brother did the same to Markle.
