Kate Garraway shares rare snap of Derek celebrating NTA win after breaking down on stage

Kate Garraway grappled with tears as she accepted an award at the National Television Awards for her documentary about her husband Derek Draper’s battle with COVID-19.

The British broadcast took a moment after the announcement that she had won the NTA for Authored Documentary before making her way to the stage with her production team.

She was greeted with a huge hug from Davina McCall on stage and then was visibly upset as she clasped her statue.

Receiving a standing ovation, the Good Morning Britain host had to step away from the mic initially because she was overcome with emotion and in the moving scenes she was seen crying as she looked down at her award.

When she had finally found her words, Kate delivered an emotional speech to the production team and to honor her husband.

‘Thank you so much for voting. I wonder if the reason you did this is that our story is your story.’ ‘I just want to say to all the Darceys and Billies and Dereks and Derek’s family that whatever you are going through and however you’re affected, you are not forgotten.’

‘But, most important of all, Derek you should be here and he should have had the chance to tell his own story. Derek you’re going to get the chance, I believe the hope is real!’

The powerful Finding Derek documentary was watched by over 4.5 million viewers to become the most-watched factual program on ITV in the past three years, The Daily Mail notes.
